Jo's and Gene's Favorite Restaurants by Country (except U. S. A. is first), State, City, Restaurant (alphabetically) United States, Canada, Mexico

Criteria to qualify for favorite restaurant status is good food, service, and atmosphere (hopefully, no smoking) . All with casual attire. Cost is not important if all else is satisfactory. We like to have wine at dinner so most of the restaurants we frequent have same! All of these restaurants rate a return visit if possible. **Are special

We find some good experiences in national chains. We usually enjoy the Outback, Macaroni Grill, Spaghetti Warehouse, and Applebee's.

Sad experiences at the end, :-(

Colorado

Greeley

Taqueria Rancho Alegre

**Aruba Beach Cafe

At the end of the main drag in Lauderdale by the Sea. Large and a little noisy. Smoking and non-smoking separated with an imaginary line. The window was open and we were not bothered by smoke. Food was outstanding, the best on the last trip. We had the mixed seafood with pasta, sea bass, and catch of the day. Yummmm. Plenty of wine and coffee. Moderate.

Tallahassee

Buckhead Brewery

Tallahassee, Florida - 3436 Cherokee Ridge. Near I-10 but not sure which exit. Mini Brewery. Offered a beer that left an aftertaste of chocolate with caramel .. so Jo had to try it. We had eaten alligator at the Old Alligator Grill in Austin, Texas, and that was better. We had steak, fish and chicken entrees. Quite good. Toward expensive. $100 for three with wine and beer, no desserts. Would certainly stop in again.

**Note Jo received that note in about 2005. On January 26, 2007, she received this note:
"
Dear Jo,
When searching our family restaurant online I came across your website that my father-in-law had contacted you. Our family restaurant has been closed since Aug. 06 but will be reopening in Feb. 07 under the management of my Husband and I who are 5th generation and our son Dalton and his new baby brother or sister! I hope you would like to come visit us sometime!

Slocan

**Lemon Creek Lodge

Slocan, BC, Canada - P.O. Box 8, 1-877-970-8090, www.lemoncreeklodge.com What a neat place. Between Winlaw and Slocan. A lodge with several cabins. Dinner reservations required even if you are staying there, it is so popular. Only a few tables. Owners are the wait staff. A true favorite. We ate there several times in our stay in the summer of 2002. Check it out for sure. Easy to find but off the main highway. Repeated in 2004 still great.

Nova Scotia

In Canada, fully licensed restaurants serve liquor.

Smitty's, a chain throughout the area, similar in looks to a Shoney's in the States, serves breakfast all day and is fully licensed. Pretty good.

Local wine, Jost, served in most restaurants as house wine. Great.

Updade received by e-mail, January 2008

I think it's great that you are providing recommendations for restaurants based on your experiences. I find those kinds of recommendations helpful whenever I come across them and I am particularly pleased to see recommendations for Nova Scotia - we need all the free advertising we can get!

I wanted to point out a couple things in the interests of accuracy, however, both FYI and so that perhaps you could correct them on your website:

Cheticamp is in Cape Breton, not Great Breton.

Rocco's Italian Restaurant in Dartmouth has now moved, it's a 313 Prince Albert Road, no longer overlooking Lake Banook, sadly, but still the same food. Marlo has moved on to work at the Inn on the Lake in Fall River. (Our gain, since we live in Fall River!)

The Vines still exists but under new management. The original owners now operate Vinnie's on Inglis St. in Halifax - excellent pastas, try it if you are ever back this way again.

And it's Salty's on the Water, not the Wharf .

Enough of my nit-picking. Love your artwork, particularly the wildflowers and your Canadian pieces.

Regards,

Leanne

Thanks to Leanne, below are the corrected versions....... :)

Cheticamp, Cape Breton

**Harbour

Cheticamp, Cape Breton, NS, Canada , 15299 Cabot Trail - Located on the waterfront with a four star B & B. Visited three times in August 2003. Waitress, Amy, was the greatest. Seafood the specialty and all was wonderful. Quiet, view, atmosphere. A favorite. Will gladly go again if we could. Fully licensed.

Dartmouth, NS

Boomerang's Steakhouse

Dartmouth, NS, Canada - 590 Portland Street - 902 457-8325 - Located in a shopping center with a rather strip mall look. The Australian name pulled us in and it was great. We had a rib eye and a seafood pasta that were outstanding. The service was great, too. They offer a free main entree on you birthday, so we may go again for that. We will go again at any rate. There is another in Moncton, NS. A feel of Outback with the large silver ware, Aussie names, etc. It was a good evening. Fully licensed. Reviewed August 2003.
