Daddy's Grille, Raymond Keyrouz, owner, will host an artists reception featuring Jo Castillo on (you are invited!) at 766 HWY. 95 N. Bastrop, Texas. Jo's show will include her newest pastel, and acrylic paintings. The public is invited for free wine and appetizers prepared by Raymond Keyrouz, owner of Daddy's Grille. The restaurant will remain open for dinner, as usual, after the reception for diners to enjoy Mediterranean and Texas food. Recently, Jo has been working to create a more interactive presence on the world wide web. A current trend, for many artists, is to create a painting a day and offer them on a blog. Jo started a blog in June of 2006. Her blog is a daily commentary and includes photos of her paintings, sketches and hints or demos about art. Reading the blog is an excellent way to see the artist's new work and how it is developed. Jo and Gene, her spouse, travel every summer to escape the intense heat and humidity in Bastrop. New Mexico is the vacation spot of choice the last few years as Gene's mother is 90 and in frail health. Before that it was off to Canada from Nova Scotia to British Columbia. They lived in Bolivia, Peru and Chile and traveled extensively in all of South America. Three of their four children live in the Austin area and one son and his family live in Kentucky, which makes travel across the United States obligatory. Daddy's Grille has been a favorite eating spot for the Castillos. Raymond is very supportive of the community and will join Jo in having a raffle for the month with the proceeds going to the Family Crisis Center. Two prizes will be awarded. The first will be a dinner for two at Daddy's Grille and second, a painting the winner can choose from a selection in the exhibit. Raffle tickets will be sold for $1.00 each or six for $5.00 at Daddy's Grille. Drawing will be April 15, winners do not have to be present to win. The exhibit will be at Daddy's Grille from March 17 to April 15. Jo's work is available at Peppers Art Gallery in Magdalena, New Mexico, as well. For more information call Jo at 512 303-7419. The artwork will be exhibited from March 15 to April 15, 2007. |

Jo Knoblock Castillo will be the featured artist at Peppers Art Gallery , 100 E 1st. Street, Magdalena, New Mexico, for their third annual open house on Saturday, July 8, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the Magdalena Old Timers Reunion. The public is invited to stop in the gallery, meet the artist and view her paintings and share refreshments. Other artists will have their artwork on display and for sale in colorful booths on the grounds at Peppers as well.
Jo works primarily in pastels. She likes the tactile qualities of pastel, the immediacy and the bold colors. Her colorful paintings are in traditional realism style influenced by the southwest and South America. An alpaca from the altiplano in Peru created in pastels demonstrates the artist's ability to give life to a two dimensional painting. Light shines in her early morning and evening pueblo style houses from New Mexico. Jo visited the Austin Pow Wow and brings some "dancing feet" paintings to share from there. This body of work was created this year especially for Jo's exhibit at the Bastrop Fine Arts Guild Gallery in Bastrop, Texas, in January and this annual exhibit in Magdalena .
Jo was born and raised in Magdalena and currently lives in Bastrop, Texas. She and her family lived in Bolivia, Chile and Peru and in various places in the States. They have traveled extensively in Canada and the United States. Jo works primarily in her studio at home. Plein air, art produced outside, is a process she favors in the summers away from her studio. After Old Timers, you will find them in Silver City or Magdalena, New Mexico, for the rest of the summer. "I hope people can feel the closeness I have with the subjects of my paintings. The ideas for my paintings surface from memories and places I enjoy," the artist says.
A sample of Jo's work will be at Peppers in Magdalena through the summer along with art work, Navajo rugs and jewelry by various local artisans. Lucy Garcia's tin work, Joe Davila's metal art, Warren Smart's paintings, Julia Gates' rope work, lamps and baskets, Shirley Lamar's paintings, metal work by Nina Chavez, cowboy painter Mark Maddy, weavers Cat Brysch and , Mary Carter, Robert Enders, Ann Boulden and Sara Creekmore, to name a few.
